I hope this month's newsletter finds you all well. May saw days of unusual warmth and typical
Minnesota cold days. However, it did provide us with much needed rainfall. This spring has been
exceptionally busy at the Club. Our Legion Family rose to the occasion, and we collectively sent many
patrons and event attendees home smiling.
I want to pass on to all an update of the status of our Post website. It has been up and running for a
couple months now. Updates and changes are being made in a timely manner, and we are all enjoying
the new look. Keep checking it from time to time, as there are many events coming up that will be
listed. A big thank you to Ashley Venburg for the website, Krista Goodyear for Facebook and Paul
Barry for our newsletters.
The old saying, “we have two seasons, winter and road construction,” holds true. In fact, the disruption
is literally on our doorstep. The Broadway Avenue Rehabilitation Project started mid-April and is set to
run through late May. While great progress is being made, there are still obstacles to overcome.
Westbound Broadway traffic is limited to one lane. Fourth Street remains open, and our patrons are
finding their way to us via alternate routes. May has been a busy month like many others. With the
Kentucky Derby, Brewers Bash fund raiser, Mothers Day brunch, 3rd District Convention and Memorial
Day to highlight a few.
We served approximately 150 attendees for the Mother’s day brunch. We received very favorable
feedback regarding our hosting of the 3rd District Convention. A ton of appreciation goes out to all who
volunteered to make this a great experience. Specifically, Cavalene Goodyear and Ashley Venburg.
Memorial Day for many signify the beginning of summer. While we wish you all enjoy this wonderful
time of year, please take special note of the significance. And, perhaps for a moment or two may we
remember all those who have served our great country giving the ultimate sacrifice to protect our
persons, freedoms and liberties. The Poppy is the symbol for the remembrance of those fallen service
members.
June 14th marks the Army’s historical 250th birthday! We will have a celebration at the American
Legion. Please join us as you are able to commemorate this special day.
Additionally, we have Flag Day on June 14th. A ceremony by our color guard will commence at noon at
the Disabled Veterans Rest Camp to honorably burn old flags. I encourage all to attend. It is quite the
event.
June 15th, There will be a Fathers Day breakfast hosted by the American Legion Riders.
Planning continues as we inch closer to the Fourth of July celebration. Volunteers are very welcome.
Volunteerism is a cornerstone of the success and comradeship of our post, club, community, and
events. Please stop in and ask a staff member or simply call to get more information.
Again, please refer to the website for further details.
